Ozark Mind Games 2005 Report: Friday

The morning session for new students was “World Religions.” Several students—here Whit Buck, Matt Mann, and Russ Forrest/Matt Damon—approached Sue Bohlin to ask her questions on her session.

Third-time alumna K.C. Vetter (yellow shirt) had to leave early from the camp. Bek Davis, Erin Singleton, Holly Porter, and Madison Holets gather around to say goodbye.

For dinner Friday, Chef Ted prepared an exquisite banquet for us. The menu included shrimp salad, rotisserie chicken with grilled zucchini, melange of rice, and carrot cake. Many of the students dressed up, amazing each other with how they "cleaned up good," to use a Texas phrase. Rachel Smoot and Sue Bohlin enjoyed upgrading their clothes.

Tyler Bennett and Whit Buck look like perfect gentlemen ready for a great dinner. And actually, they ARE!

“Byron T. Nelson,” who is really Loren the program director, escorted the ladies into the banquet. That afternoon he had hosted the Ozark Golf Tournament. (With a name like that, we knew golf would show up somewhere this week!) Here Erin Singleton delights in being escorted to her table.

After three days of searching for buried Ozark treasure, the treasure hunters found the stash—a collection of Cherokee necklaces, one for each treasure hunter. Josh Rowley shows off his reward.

In the last evening session, Ray recapped his "Campus Christianity" main points, and each of the Probe staff asked the students questions from their lectures, rewarding correct answers with free books and CD sets from our book table. After then watching the film “Signs,” we all enjoyed a slideshow of the week (thanks to the tireless efforts of Mind Games administrator Bethany Lee). Next, several of the students performed at a talent show. Here Stephen Baker teaches an appreciative audience how to juggle.

Lauren Smith and Erin Singleton sing a duet while Matt Mann accompanies them.

Kris Griffith and Nick Peterson wrote their own rap in a rap-off.

After the talent show and a concert by “You Before Me,” the Ozark staff took the students on a hayride.

The hayride ended at the campfire where the staff prepared s’mores for the students.

The staff surprised the students with one last evening activity (actually, by this point it was early morning), the Scream Swing, where students are hoisted in the air by a rope, the lights are doused, and they swing in pitch darkness. Kris Griffith salutes the camera before he goes on his swing.

The last one to swing was Pat Zukeran. After pressure from the students, he went on. Pat did say it was fun after he survived the stark terror.

We were blessed with an incredible group of alumni this year. Every one of them was teachable, open-hearted and open-minded, and true "crème de la crème"— Britney Bearden, Tyler Bennett, Erin Singleton, K.C. Vetter, Ryan Jones, Kathryn Jones, Holly Porter, Bek Davis, and Karla Evans. They were such a joy to us!

Here is a group picture of all the students, the Probe staff, “You Before Me,” and the Ozark staff.
