Ozark Mind Games 2003 Report: Wednesday

Relationships forged at Mind Games conferences are special. Alumni from 2001 and 2002 gather for a picture to send to Mind Games alum 2001-2002 Kevin Clarke, who is now a Marine serving the Lord and our country in Iraq. Back row: Jennifer Robison, Rebekah Wiley, Hannah Bakke. Front row: Ryan Dusek, John Wray, Ray Bohlin.

Sue Bohlin filled time while others fixed a glitch in the AV equipment by performing her rendition of "I'm a Little Teapot." (The punchline is, "Son of a gun, I'm a sugarbowl!" [Pah-DUM-bump!])

Students being the good listeners they are. As staff, we are SO grateful for the teachable spirits of these dear, dear young people who are so easy to love. . . and LIKE! From left to right, Caleb Peavy, Whit Cox, Ryan Dusek, Rebeckah Koone, Hannah Bakke.

Michael and Kelly Holets, our hosts at Ozark Conference Center. We can't say enough wonderful things about these gifted, creative, hospitality-oriented folks. As speakers, we have visited a large number of camps and conference facilities, and we continue to be blown away by the excellence and going-beyond-the-call commitment to service that Michael and Kelly display 24/7. This is an amazing facility with amazing staff, and their direction and personal touch makes Mind Games extra-special for all of us. From consistently outstanding food to thoughtful little touches for the students and the Probe staff, we are all very grateful.

Those ready to tackle the ropes course pile in the back of Ozark program director Cory Pepiton's truck for the ride to the course.

Youth pastor Grant Winnes, here from Indiana with four of his students, discovered just how far he could do the splits. He didn't know his legs could do that!

The payoff for all the courage it takes and the physical challenges of the ropes course--like doing the splits--is the rush of the zipline.

Megan Knotts got this far on the ropes course when distant thunder and lightning put an end to that activity. She will get to finish later in the week.

Nathan Potter is exhilirated by the height and the challenge.

Ryan Dusek not only conquered the ropes course, he did this part BACKWARDS! Those on the ground were in awe.

Saunnie Knotts shows how it's done.

Wednesday night dinner was scrumptious: turkey, dressing, marshmallow sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade rolls. . . with apple cobbler for dessert.

The last teaching session of the day featured Todd Kappelman's "What's in a Movie?" lecture where he instructed the students on the kind of things to look for in a movie or film: What is the worldview of the director and screenwriter? Is it truthful about life? Is it an accurate portrayal of life? The goal is to not simply escape into movies but to think about what we're seeing. He showed three movie clips: here is one of the best scenes from "Chariots of Fire."
